Planet Kid runs weekdays 2:30-6pm (except Fridays*) for children in grades K through 4. We also run “Club 56” for children in grades 5 and 6. Our structured and unstructured activities are geared to developing social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills.
Two separate but linked classrooms allow us to provide planned activities and games in one room, while keeping the other room quieter for homework, reading and low key activities. Homework is important, so tutors are on-hand to help your child complete their tasks. Books, games, puzzles and friends are always here, and the facilities of the Gordon JCC allow us to spend time outside the classroom too.
We start the afternoon with a snack, followed by a variety of options for your child to spend their afternoon. From 4:00-5:00, kids choose from Homework Club, an organized art project led by staff, or free time. From 5:00-5:30, we get everyone moving with physical activities on our 52 acre campus, including our playgrounds, indoor and outdoor saltwater pools and our gym and auditorium.
We keep our ratios low – staff to child is capped at 1:10, significantly lower than the state requirement of 1:25. This low ratio, combined with our excellent kid-friendly staff, and a first-rate facility translates into the best care for your child. We offer transportation for students at Akiva, Gower Elementary, Westmeade Elementary and Harpeth Valley. Our calendar reflects the schedules of Akiva and Metro Public Schools, and we run School’s Out Days during school breaks and holidays!
As a way of saying thank you to our Planet Kid families, we are pleased to offer participants credit towards any School’s Out Days at the Gordon JCC during the academic year. The more days you register for Planet Kid, the more School’s Out credit you receive!
We also offer music lessons for your budding Bach or Hendrix! Learn more here.
*Planet Kid and the Gordon JCC close Fridays at 5:45 pm.
